Howdy! I’m Erika (she/her) - a queer director / producer who treasures stories that see the beauty in the benign, and that celebrate what it means to be alive (yes, even the shit parts). Having grown up as an expat, my work often explores themes of home and belonging - both in a physical and figurative space. This comes coupled with my belief that queer characters don't need every story to be about the bleak fear of coming out, but instead like to work from a lens of ingrained queerness and what it means to find home within yourself.

If you chat to me, you’ll hear the most bizarre fluctuating accent which is thanks to being born in Melbourne, raised in China, doing a brief stint in the UK, and then settling (for the time being) in Sydney where I completed my BA in Screen Production at the Australian Film Television and Radio School. My previous work includes a queer rom-com short Someone New, a children’s animated series Abbey and Moose’s Detective Agency, and directing the doc short Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? - both of which have been officially selected for festivals around the world.

I’m currently on the festival circuit for a two hander short Cusp as well as developing a queer romantic dramedy feature The Honeymoon Period.

When not hunched over my computer in a cafe somewhere, I spend my days (often also hunched over a computer) working as a casting associate at Mitchell Casting, where I hone my craft under the guidance of the formidable Amanda Mitchell.
